A HOME TRANSFORMATION · DOWNSTAIRS LIVING & ENTRANCE

The art of slowing down

From an empty downstairs space to a home with warmth, rhythm and a sense of welcome.

01 BEFORE · THE EMPTY SPACE

Before

An empty downstairs living space, ready to find its purpose and character.

02 AFTER · THE LIVING ROOM

After

A warm evening setting, with a defined seating area, low storage and light at different heights.

CHAPTER 01 · THE STARTING POINT

Plenty of space.
A feeling still to find.

The starting point was an open, unfurnished downstairs area: pale floors, bare walls and generous glazing.

We wanted to give the living space and entrance a sense of purpose and connection. The story unfolds through the layers that followed: furniture to define places to settle, storage to support daily life, and light, art and objects to make the space feel personal.

Before

Bare walls and an open floor, before furniture, lighting and personal details brought the room together.

Before

The original finishes, glazing and connection to the rest of the downstairs space.

CHAPTER 02 · THE LIVING SPACE

Turning down the pace.
Bringing in the warmth.

The finished room comes into its own in the evening. Pools of light sit around the television, on cabinet tops and within the shelving, bringing attention to different parts of the room.

A rug draws the seating and coffee table into one group. Along the wall, low cabinets give the room a continuous base, while a rounded mirror, taller plants and open shelving introduce a different rhythm above it.

THE DETAIL THAT CONNECTS IT

Pale storage fronts and warm metal accents recur across the living space and entrance, giving the downstairs a shared language.

After

Open shelving, books, ceramics and greenery give the room layers of interest beside practical closed storage.

LIGHT

More than one source.

Small lamps and concealed illumination create layers across the room, with brighter moments beside softer shadows.

FUNCTION

A place for the everyday.

Closed cabinets offer storage below, leaving the surfaces above for a more considered collection of objects.

CHARACTER

Interest at different heights.

Books, ceramics, plants and curved forms break up the horizontal lines and give the room its personality.

CHAPTER 03 · THE ENTRANCE

The welcome begins
before you sit down.

The entrance carries the same warmth into the spaces you move through.

Slim cabinets give the passage a practical purpose. Repeated globe lamps establish a gentle rhythm, while mirrors, display shelves and artwork create moments of interest along the route. The large abstract piece, lit from above, gives one wall a distinct point of focus.

THE SPACE, BROUGHT TOGETHER

A place to arrive.
A place to settle.
A place to exhale.

The transformation is in how the layers relate: light with shadow, storage with display, and the living room with the welcome at the door.
